The summer entering my senior year of high school, I condcuted research in Dr. Amini's Lab about the mechanical properties of the tricuspid valve over time. The data collected was published in May 2023

My research project for the summer was focused on the mechanical properties of the tricuspid valve - an important but understudied part of the heart. Using biaxial mechanical testing, my lab partner and I tested many anterior leaflet samples and graphed stress-strain plots to see if the modulus of stiffness changed over time.
What I learned:
- Anatomy of the heart via porcine heart dissections
- Lab technique: biaxial mechanical testing, creation of steril media, suturing
- Data analysis using MATLAB
